Powder coatings are 100% solid, solvent-free, powder-based environmentally friendly coatings. Completely different from common liquid paints, they do not rely on solvent evaporation but rather on heating, melting, leveling, and curing to form a strong film on the surface of an object. The most prominent advantage of powder coatings is their environmental friendliness. They release almost no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during production, application, and curing, which greatly helps reduce air pollution and protect the health of construction workers. Powder not adsorbed by the workpiece can also be collected and reused through a recycling system, resulting in high material utilization and further reducing costs and waste. Powder coatings are mainly divided into two categories, which can be selected according to different needs:
Thermosetting powder coatings: This is currently the most widely used type. During heating, a chemical cross-linking reaction occurs, forming an infusible three-dimensional network structure, resulting in more stable performance. Common varieties include:
Epoxy powder coatings: Excellent adhesion, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties, often used for pipeline corrosion protection and priming of metal products.
Polyester powder coatings: Good weather resistance and UV resistance, high gloss, often used in home appliances, furniture, outdoor railings, and other fields with high decorative requirements.
Acrylic powder coatings: Excellent weather resistance and color retention, superior appearance, used for components with high aesthetic requirements such as automotive wheels.
Thermoplastic powder coatings: No chemical cross-linking reaction, only physical melting and cooling to form a film. Common types include polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, and nylon powders, mainly used in special fields such as chemical corrosion protection and the inner walls of food-grade equipment. In 2024, China's powder coating production accounted for more than 60% of the global total. Jinhua Jiazhen Technology Co., Ltd. is also gradually expanding its application areas from traditional fields such as home appliances and aluminum profiles to emerging fields such as new energy vehicles, construction machinery, and solar photovoltaics.
