What is the minimum thickness of powder coating?

2025-11-18

The minimum film thickness for powder coatings typically falls between 60 and 80 µm. Sometimes however, this can still be too thick, in which case a special thin-film powder coating is used. Under certain conditions, these powders can achieve a maximum film thickness of 30 µm.

Can you powder coat over rust?
Rust can be a major obstacle when it comes to achieving a perfect powder coating finish. While it's technically possible to powder coat rusty metal, doing so without proper surface preparation will lead to poor adhesion and premature coating failure.

What is the new technology for powder coating?
Nanotechnology is unlocking unprecedented functional benefits in powder coatings. By integrating nanoparticles (e.g., silica, titanium dioxide), coatings gain superior properties such as: Self-Cleaning Surfaces: Hydrophobic nano-coatings repel water and dirt, ideal for architectural and automotive applications.
